The David Rose Orchestra - If You Could Read My Mind

He wrote the themes for the famous TV shows "Bonanza" and "High Chaparral". He also wrote the famous instrumental pieces "The stripper" and "Holiday for strings". And he received several awards for his work (eg "Bonanza" was awarded an Emmy). We're talking of course about the London born American pianist and orchestrator David Rose. Rose, who was married to Judy Garland for a few years (early forties), mainly worked for television but in his later career (sixties and seventies) he also recorded some easy listening albums with his orchestra. In 1972 Polydor released a compilation album under the title "Portrait of David Rose" and this "If you could read my mind" was taken from that production. David Rose "switches the orchestra in the highest gear" and we get to hear a full throated orchestration with the strings playing the lead melody in an emphasized style. Written in 1970 by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, and covered by an array of artists since then, here's!
